Me Against the World Album Info: (from HipHopDOA.com)

Me Against the World is Tupac Shakur’s 3rd solo album and was released on March 14, 1995 through 2Pac’s label Out Da Gutta, although Amaru Entertainment the label owned by Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, has since gained the rights to it. The album was recorded before and whilst Tupac was recovering from his November 1994 shooting, and was then released while he was incarcerated. As a result of these circumstances, Me Against the World has become known to many fans as the most personal of pac’s releases, an album in which he expresses a personal mix of emotions aswell as reactions to the events in his life. The album digresses through many topics, from the dangers of paranoia, organized crime, and the moral repercussions of violence.

Upon it’s release Me Against the World topped the US Billboard 200 albums chart shifting an impressive 440,000 copies in it’s first week of release, making Tupac the first artist to have an album debut at #1 while incarcerated. The album debuted at number-one and stayed there for four weeks which was the record for longest time at the top of the charts for a solo male rap artist at the time. Days after its release the album was certified Gold for its sales in the US, and on April 26th 1995, only a month or so after its release it was certified Platinum, and in the same year was certified as 2x Platinum by the RIAA for it’s shipments in the US alone.

In a late-1995 interview with MTV, Shakur expressed amazement over the fact that Me Against the World held the top spot on the Billboard charts, over artists as mainstream as Bruce Springsteen. In a different interview with MTV’s Tabitha Soren, taped after Shakur was bailed out of the Clinton Correctional Facility, he described Me Against the World as his personal favorite album up to that point in his career. Many fans consider Me Against the World to be Shakur’s best album, the album has also rightfully earned significant critical acclaim, earning a perfect 5 Mic rating from The Source and a full 5 Star award from All Music Guide and also HipHopDOA.com…… [Read more: 2PAC "ME AGAINST THE WORLD"]
