24th October 2005: Thru My Eyes: Thoughts on Tupac Shakur in Pictures and Words:
Despite his tragic and untimely death nine years ago, the legacy of the late rapper Tupac Amaru Shakur continues to live on through his inspirational music, spoken word projects and movies. Thanks to his close friend Gobi (also director of his last three music videos), a book entitled "Thru My Eyes: Thoughts on Tupac Amaru Shakur in Pictures and Words" will hit stores next week.
Gobi has compiled a compelling assortment of 50 color and black and white photographic images complemented by personal commentary. These pictures, never before published, reflect the final year of Tupac’s life in 1996. During this time Gobi played an instrumental role in producing and directing music and videos for Tupac’s feature film company. The result was not merely a business partnership, but also a close friendship. "Thru My Eyes" seeks to capture the true essence of Tupac by revealing the many facets of his personality. Gobi offers an array of candid pictures that convey the multitude of personalities and moods that are Tupac. Gobi’s main objective is to reveal Tupac as an individual, not simply another manufactured “pop-idol.”
“Photos taken on video and film sets underscore Pac’s true work ethic,” Gobi said. “Tupac could work twenty-two hours a day, raising the bar for everyone working alongside him. A true revolutionist, Tupac understood tomorrow was promised to no one.”
The book begins with a forward by Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur Davis, who says that "Thru My Eyes" "offers a personal view that warrants exposure." The book closes with Gobi’s personal and poignant account of how it felt to sit idle during Tupac’s seven days of hospitalization. A portion of the book’s proceeds will be donated to the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (http://www.tasf.com).
In addition to the book, Gobi plans to direct the only script written by Tupac, "Live 2 Tell," in March 2006. Afeni Shakur sums up Thru Our Eyes best in her forward: “This book is Gobi’s way of honoring my son and sharing his experience. . .I thank you, Gobi, for being my son’s friend.”
He also let us know about an online promotional video for this book, you can watch it at: http://www.justproductions.com/mov/thru.mov . "Thru My Eyes: Thoughts on Tupac Amaru Shakur" in Pictures and Words hits stores Nov. 1.
23rd October 2005: New Revelations on Tupac's NY Shooting:
On November 30th, 1994 at 12:20 a.m., west coast rap icon Tupac Shakur was shot at the Quad Recording Studios in Times Square in New York. The media largely portrayed the shooting as a standard robbery, in which rapper Tupac Shakur went for his gun, and was shot. According to Tupac (2Pac) and others however, the story runs a lot deeper.
Ethan Brown writes about pop music, crime, and drug policy for publications such as Wired, New York, Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and GQ. In the upcoming December issue of VIBE, Ethan Brown has the first ever extensive interview with Jimmy "Henchmen" Rosemond about the Quad shooting. New revelations about the Quad shooting, including brand new revelations from the hustlers who befriended rap legend Tupac Shakur just before he was shot at the Quad, as well as a new timeline of the Quad shooting itself will be mentioned in the December VIBE. Ethan Brown also has a book out that together with the VIBE article will shed new light on this subject.
“The book and the article together provide the fullest account of what happened at the Quad so far. And the access I got to Jimmy Henchmen was unbelievable. I interviewed Jimmy nearly half a dozen times and he was remarkably open with me about what happened that night” Ethan Brown said.
His book ‘Queens Reigns Supreme : Fat Cat, 50 Cent, and the Rise of the Hip Hop Hustler’ is based on police wiretaps and exclusive interviews with drug kingpins and hip-hop insiders. It is the untold story of how the streets and housing projects of southeast Queens took over the rap industry. For years, rappers from Nas to Ja Rule have hero-worshipped the legendary drug dealers who dominated Queens in the 1980s with their violent crimes and flashy lifestyles. Now, for the first time ever, this gripping narrative digs beneath the hip-hop fables to re-create the rise and fall of hustlers like Lorenzo “Fat Cat” Nichols, Gerald “Prince” Miller, Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff, and Thomas “Tony Montana” Mickens. Spanning twenty-five years, from the violence of the crack era to Run DMC to the infamous murder of NYPD rookie Edward Byrne to Tupac Shakur to 50 Cent’s battles against Ja Rule and Murder Inc., to the killing of Jam Master Jay, Queens Reigns Supreme is the first inside look at the infamous southeast Queens crews and their connections to gangster culture in hip hop today.
14th October 2005: Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney Crafting Legislation To Open Government Files On Tupac Shakur:
The Black Electorate recently reported that Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is attempting to pass legislation for the public release of all files on the life and murder of Tupac Shakur. Afenia Shakur, Tupac's mother and former Black Panther, is supporting these efforts.
The full article as reported by the Black Electorate:
On Thursday, September 22nd, at the end of her packed-to-capacity Congressional Black Caucus Braintrust, "Countering Culture: COINTELPRO Attacks On Political Musicians"; Rep. Cynthia McKinney made a dramatic announcement. With Afeni Shakur providing a smile of approval, the Georgia lawmaker told the audience she will be introducing legislation to open the United States government files on the life and death of Tupac Shakur.
The statement came at the end of a two-hour discussion featuring Paul Robeson, Jr., son of the legendary scholar, athlete, activist, and actor; Alex Constantine, noted author of , "The Covert War Against Rock"; and Ms. Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s Mother, former Black Panther member and head of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center For The Arts. Mr. Robeson had already spoken of the opposition his father faced from the FBI and CIA, including the infamous MKULTRA program; Mr. Constantine had just provided little-known information regarding the surveillance and destabilization efforts of intelligence agencies aimed at Jimmy Hendrix and Bob Marley; and Ms. Shakur detailed her first-hand testimony and perspective not only as a victim of COINTELPRO and a mother of an artist murdered under suspicious circumstances, but also as one who argues that self-perpetuated weaknesses and ills in the Black community are what continue to make itself susceptible to external forces. I had the honor of moderating the discussion and public question and answer session.
Nearly 3 years prior to that day, on September 20, 2002, I wrote a BlackElectorate.com editorial, "RapCOINTELPRO X - Getting To The Top And Bottom Of The Murders Of Biggie And Tupac". The editorial was inspired in part by the September 6, 2002 Los Angeles Times article which claimed that the Notorious B.I.G. masterminded a $1 million plot to murder Tupac. The paper even claimed that the rapper, also known as "Biggie Smalls" supplied the murder weapon. This latest version of events claiming to explain the murder of Tupac, followed elaborate arguments that Death Row Records CEO, Suge Knight, was responsible for the murder, and has been followed, as recently as two weeks ago, by the news that a federal probe has re-opened the investigation into the 1994 shooting of Tupac at Quad Studios. In regards to the constant speculation, leaks and investigation from law enforcement and media outlets revolving around ‘Who Killed Tupac?,’ I wrote the following, "The only way to get to the top and bottom of both murders is to find out once and for all what the United States government knows about them. Since it is a fact that Death Row and Bad Boy Records and Tupac and Biggie were under FBI, ATF, IRS, NYPD and LAPD surveillance and/or investigation at the time of both murders; their exist, at this very moment files that have not been made public. Especially in the case of the government agencies involved, these files should be opened. The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) allows anyone - a family member or journalist - to obtain such files. There do exist files and dossiers on both Biggie and Tupac within the federal government. Efforts should be made to obtain the de-classified and still classified files pertaining to Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace."
That Tupac was under surveillance at the time of his murder and that government and other informants had infiltrated his inner circle at that time is generally accepted by those who were close to him at the time of his death. But the full reality and important details that Tupac had long been a target or subject of law enforcement’s watchful, and often mischievous eye is less understood. For example, at last week’s CBC Braintrust, in riveting fashion, Afeni Shakur provided an account of Tupac’s arrest on rape charges, full of anecdotes about the manner in which a S.W.A.T. team was present, Atlanta police called, and Tupac asked to give himself up in certain way in the hotel, that would lead a reasonable person to wonder if the circumstances of his arrest were not also an attempt to murder him. In an interview I recently granted, I was asked the question of who killed Biggie and Tupac. I replied in part that I don’t know but I do believe that the government and our worst enemies have tried to use the murders, and their lack of an arrest for either, against the Hip-Hop and Black and Latino community. I could rest my case, alone, on the ‘leaks’ that law enforcement agencies have given to publications over the last 9 years, accusing or suspecting various Hip-Hop artists, music industry and street figures of responsibility for Tupac’s murder. If the files surrounding his life and death were opened, perhaps the light of disclosure would remove any intentional mystery surrounding this one young Black Man’s death.
Yesterday, I asked Congresswoman McKinney how the legislation would look. Rep. McKinney replied: "Basically we would model the Tupac legislation on the MLK legislation which I introduced earlier this year. That legislation, in turn, is based on successful legislation that put a process in place for the public release of all files pertaining to the murder of President John Kennedy. We know that in 1999 a jury determined that there was a conspiracy to kill Dr. King that included our own government. To the extent that there are files available on the life and murder of Tupac, they, too should be released for public inspection. Maybe then, like the Tennessee jury, we'll get closer to the truth about the forces swirling around this young man that ended up taking his life."
Although it must be enormously painful for Afeni Shakur to have to relive, repeatedly, the death and painful memories of her son; her support of Congresswoman McKinney’s legislation indicates her courage, strength and insight into the necessary steps that we will have to take to outthink our worst enemies and learn the lessons of history, that we may not repeat them. It also sets a beautiful example for Voletta Wallace, the mother of Christopher Wallace (the Notorious B.I.G.) to consider following. In my September 20, 2002 editorial I wrote: "Among other things, the community should also encourage, and hope and pray that Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur and Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace, eventually meet with Dr. King's late wife, Coretta Scott King, who can be a source of wisdom and strength to them as they navigate not only the pain and grief of loss, but also the possibilities that very powerful individuals in government and without, know more about the murders of Biggie and Tupac than has ever been reported. This may be especially helpful to Biggie's mother who is persuaded by the work of a White investigator that the LAPD is covering up Biggie's murder (Afeni Shakur has been clear in her statements that she does not trust the government, local police, or media where her son is concerned). This is bigger than the LAPD. The fact that Biggie and Puffy's cars, that fateful night in March of 1997, were under surveillance by the ATF, FBI and undercover NYPD; and that members of Biggie's entourage were shown pictures of cars and individuals who were near them at the time Biggie was shot provides evidence that more than an LAPD cover-up is involved. Coretta Scott King can be an invaluable resource of insight into dealing with the federal government's knowledge of what happened in September of 1996 in Las Vegas and in Los Angeles in March of 1997."
Last week we all received the wonderful news that Mrs. Coretta Scott King had left the hospital and was healing and in therapy after a serious stroke. She is even speaking a bit. Whether or not she is able to provide wise counsel to Ms. Shakur and Ms. Wallace may no longer be the point. The courageous example of her life and the pain of living under a cloud of suspicion and unanswered questions regarding a loved one murdered under suspicious and political circumstances is enough to teach us all the depth of the harm that can be caused to individuals and an entire community when the right questions are not answered and mysteries remain intentionally unsolved. It is good for us all that Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney understands this lesson.
14th October 2005: C. Delores Tucker Dead at 78:
Political activist C. DeLores Tucker, who arm-in-arm with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was the first African American to serve as Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and in her later years protested against obscenities in rap music, died today at Suburban Woods Health and Rehabilitation Center in Norristown. She was 78. The West Mount Airy resident spent her entire life fighting for civil rights, a struggle she carried out with poise and elegance. She always wore turbans and matching ensembles, even when taking to the streets or being arrested.
Known for thunderous speeches reflective of her father, Rev. Whitfield Nottage of the old Ebenezer Community Tabernacle in North Philadelphia, Mrs. Tucker took to the stump at age 16 - protesting from the back of a flatbed truck outside the old Bellevue-Strafford Hotel because it refused entrance to black athletes. She fired up voters for Joseph Clark in his first bid for mayor in 1951 and worked under the big-top in every presidential campaign since JFK. The flamboyant Mrs. Tucker marched into history at the side of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. during a civil-rights protest in Selma, Ala., in 1965.
In 1993, the civil-rights maverick grabbed headlines when she came out against obscenities found in rap music. She protested, wrote letters and picketed the NAACP in 1994, even though she was on the board of trustees, when it nominated gangsta rapper Tupac Shakur for one of its Image Awards (he did not win). Mrs. Tucker said in a 1994 Inquirer story, she was "ready to go to jail, ready to die, whatever is necessary to stop this pornographic filth". Indeed, Mrs. Tucker was always ready. She was arrested a handful of times while picketing in front of music stores that sold the music.
She was such a vocal and visible opponent of the insulting messages in the music, that rappers took to ridiculing her in their lyrics. She fired back with five defamation lawsuits against singers and media conglomerates such as Timer Warner Inc. as purveyors of the music genre.
In 1999, a federal judge threw out the suit Mrs. Tucker filed against the estate of the slain Tupac Shakur involving the rhyming of her surname with an obscenity in his 1996 album All Eyez on Me. She also unsuccessfully sued Time, Newsweek and other publications for their apparent misinterpretation of a lawyer's comment to reporters about a count of her lawsuit seeking damages for emotional distress because of a "loss of consortium."
The legal definition of consortium includes a spouse's loss of "society, guidance, companionship and sexual relations," but it was the last definition that magazines and a number of newspapers, including the Philadelphia Daily News, cited. Mrs Tucker and her lawyers denied that the suit had anything to do with damage to her sex life. The suit was tossed out by U.S. District Judge Ronald L. Buckwalter in 1999.
8th October 2005: Tupac's Sister Announces Clothing Line:
Tupac Shakur's sister (Sekyiwa ‘Set’ Shakur) announced that she will release an urban fashion line for women called ‘Madameveli’. The name ‘Madameveli’ is a take off of Makaveli Branded, a clothing line inspired by her well known brother and legendary rapper 2Pac.
“Madameveli embraces the oddities each woman possesses and accentuates the physical and intrinsic features that make her unique,” says Sekyiwa ‘Set’ Shakur.
‘Makaveli Branded’ was introduced by Afeni Shakur to retailers nationally in November of 2003. The clothing line has enjoyed favorable review and support by Tupac fans worldwide. The Madamaveli line is set to hit stores in Fall 2006.
30th September 2005: Tupac Script To Be A Movie:
The only script written by Tupac Shakur will be turned into a movie next year. Titled "Live 2 Tell," the script is about a black teenager from the projects who becomes a drug kingpin before turning his life around, according to a spokesperson for the project. Tupac, who starred in six movies, including 1993's "Poetic Justice," wrote the movie in 1995 with himself in mind for the lead.
Insomnia Media Group, the production company behind an upcoming Shawn Fanning biopic, recently bought the script from the late rapper's mother, Afeni Shakur, who will produce the movie with Preston Holmes ("Hustle & Flow"). IMG, also known for publishing Jose Canseco's tell-all "Juiced" book, is currently casting "Live 2 Tell" with a shooting start date scheduled for March.
Tupac, who died September 13, 1996, after being shot in Las Vegas a week earlier, also starred in "Juice," "Above the Rim," "Bullet," "Gridlock'd" and "Gang Related." Since his death, he's been the subject of two documentaries, "Biggie & Tupac" and last year's "Tupac: Resurrection," which earned an Oscar nomination.
20th September 2005: Tupac Poetry: The Rose Volume 2 Drops Today:
A number of hip-hop and R&B’s top artists have taken a brand new approach to using Tupac Shakur’s poetry in song, paying tribute to the late rapper in his own words on The Rose, Vol. 2 – Music Inspired by Tupac’s Poetry. Unlike its predecessor, The Rose, Vol. 2 is not a spoken word album – instead, each musical artist has taken inspiration from one of the poems in Tupac’s The Rose that Grew from Concrete book and used portions of the poems to build their own original songs, with Tupac’s poetry serving as their muse. Released by Amaru Entertainment, The Rose, Vol. 2 features 15 fresh tracks from an array of genres, including rap, hip-hop, soul and R&B offerings. The guest artists on The Rose, Vol. 2 include Ludacris, Lyfe Jennings, Bone Thugs -N- Harmony, The Outlawz, Memphis Bleek, and Talib Kweli, among others.
Celina Nixon, a former member of “Pac’s Kids” (the students of the annual Tupac Summer Performing Arts Camp) and now the Artistic Director for the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF), provides the song, “The Eternal Lament,” while another piece - a poem and vocal solo blend entitled “Poetry” – is written and performed by current “Pac’s Kids” Morgan McKenzie (16 years old) and Amber Granderson (15 years old). It is especially noteworthy that Celina Nixon, Morgan McKenzie and Amber Granderson are three talented young women who all honed their musical skills through attending the Tupac Summer Performing Arts Camp year after year.
Perhaps the most unexpected appearance comes from Digital Underground’s Shock G (AKA Humpty Hump), the man most responsible for launching 2Pac’s solo career, by giving him his first prominent introduction and then allowing him the chance to perform his own verse on the Underground’s smash hit single, “Same Song.”
The track listing for The Rose Vol. 2 is as follows:
1) Intro feat. Black Ice
2) Power of a Smile feat. Bone Thugs N Harmony
3) The Eternal Lament feat. Celina
4) Fallen Star feat. Talib Kwali
5) In The Depths of Solitude feat. Ludacris

The timing of the CD’s release corresponds with the 9th anniversary of Tupac’s untimely death (September 13th, 1996), and with the unveiling of the new bronze Tupac Memorial Statue in Atlanta on September 13. The statue will be located in the 6-acre Peace Garden at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts. The Center just recently opened Phase 1 of its 3-stage construction in Atlanta.
Proceeds from sales of The Rose, Vol. 2 will go to benefit the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, which – along with fan and corporate donations – is raising the $3 million needed for the completion of the Center, which will serve as Tupac’s ultimate legacy: providing a safe place where youths from all backgrounds are free to express themselves creatively through the arts.

13th September 2005: Not Platinum This Time for Rap Icon Tupac Shakur:
The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (TASCA) last week unveiled the memorial bronze statue of hip-hop rap icon Tupac Shakur, making Tupac the first rap icon to immortalized in bronze (click here to see a pic). An emotional Afeni Shakur welcomed over one thousand people to share the unveiling with her and other Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts supporters. It has been nine years since the rap icon, poet, actor, and activist was assassinated in Las Vagas while riding wiith his friend and boss, the CEO of Death Row Records Marion ‘Suge’ Knight.
Due to the continuing efforts of Tupac’s mother, Afeni, the rap icons legacy is well preserved and is contributing to society in ways that would surely make Tupac proud. The statue occupies the center of the 6-acre Peace Garden, surrounded by poetry and quotations from Tupac’s body of work. The seven-foot sculpture sits atop a three-foot base and features the rap industrys top-selling superstar adorned in a suit (based on an outfit actually worn by Tupac) and holding a copy of his famous book of poetry penned when he was only 19, The Rose that Grew from Concrete.
Reverend Minister Server led the attendees in an exhilarating, heartening prayer, followed by a moment of silence in memory of Tupac and "all the other fallen souls." The statue was designed by noted sculptor Tina Allen, who has earned a reputation immortalizing great figures from African-American history ranging from Nat King Cole to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. However, Tupac is the first rap star ever to be memorialized in bronze.
Ms. Allen said, "I was deeply moved to see so many people brought to tears upon first seeing the sculpture – it was clear that something very special had come into all of our lives through this remarkable young poet. Usually, people will applaud or cheer – but these people were reacting to Tupac's statue on an entirely different level. Every generation picks their own heroes – and from the incredible display of emotion I was blessed to witness on Tuesday, this generation's hero is clearly Tupac Shakur."
On September 20, Tupac Shakur’s poetry is celebrated by some of hip hop’s finest with the release of ‘The Rose, Vol. 2’, a collection of songs inspired by the poems Tupac wrote as a teenager. In order to complete the Tupac Center, the Foundation is still requires an additional $3 million. For those wishing to contribute, information can be found at these websites: www.2PAClegacy.com or www.TASF.org

15th August 2005: Statue To Be Unveiled Sept/13/05:
The newly-opened Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (TASCA) will unveil a bronze memorial statue of Tupac Shakur that will occupy the center of the six-acre Peace Garden at a public ceremony on September 13, 2005 at 6:00 PM in Atlanta. The unveiling will take place on the same day as the nine-year anniversary of Tupac’s tragic passing.
Designed and created by noted sculptor Tina Allen, the statue of the late rap superstar will stand seven feet tall on a three-foot base, inside a fountain in the shape of the gothic cross universally associated with Tupac. The sculpture will be surrounded with poetry and quotations written by Tupac over the course of his life. The unveiling ceremony will feature a special performance by the Tupac Summer Performing Arts Camp kids, as well as discussions with Ms. Afeni Shakur – Tupac’s mother and founder of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) – and Ms. Allen.
“This statue will serve as a reminder to all those who visit the Peace Garden of the love and hope for peace my son always held in his heart. This sculpture and the Center that surrounds it will carry Tupac’s message on down to our children’s children,” says Ms. Shakur.
Ms. Allen, classically-trained in Florence, Italy, has devoted her life to preserving the positive aspects of African-American culture and has previously created public bronze monuments of historic figures ranging from Nat King Cole to Dr. Martin Luther King. “What a pleasure to create a sculpture for a beautiful charismatic young man who left us too soon. Now, his legacy is drawing our children to the arts, encouraging them to dream a bigger dream – no matter what their circumstances, Tupac has made it cool to express themselves through the arts.”
While the unveiling ceremony is free for all to attend, tickets for the reception to follow are available for $50 – or, for a donation of $100, one can attend the reception and also purchase a commemorative brick that can be engraved with a name or message. The bricks will be constructed into the Tupac Center, as part of TASF’s “One Brick at a Time” campaign. All proceeds will go towards the $3 Million still needed for the Center’s completion.
On September 20, Tupac Shakur’s poetry is celebrated again with the release of The Rose, Vol. 2, a collection of songs that were inspired by the poems Tupac wrote as a teenager. The tracks on The Rose, Vol. 2 are not spoken word readings like the ones on Vol. 1, but all new original numbers written and performed by an impressive list of guest rap, hip-hop, soul and R&B luminaries – including Bone Thugs ‘N Harmony, Outlawz and Digital Underground’s Shock G (AKA Humpty Hump), the man most responsible for launching 2Pac’s solo career.

11th June 2005: Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) Opens:
After many years of prayer and patience, the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation (TASF) is hosting the Grand Opening of its Visitor Center and Peace Garden on June 11, 2005. This is the first phase of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts (TASCA), in Stone Mountain, Georgia, that will eventually include a performing arts theater, museum, art gallery, community meeting space and classrooms. The Visitor Center will consist of a display gallery, rehearsal space for the annual Summer Arts Camp students, gift shop and TASF’s offices. The general public will be able to visit and view various exhibits (including personal items of Tupac and fan art work, among other pieces), as well as buy Tupac and TASF merchandise.
The Peace Garden will be a beautifully landscaped 6-acre site designed as a place of reflection in honor of those who are no longer with us. A bronze statue of Tupac will ultimately stand in the center of the Garden, inside a fountain in the shape of the gothic cross universally associated with 2Pac. The Garden will also consist of a donor platform, wooden pavilions and a variety of other fountains spread throughout.
Ms. Afeni Shakur, mother of rap’s greatest icon, founded the TASF in November 1997 to carry on the legacy of Tupac’s creative talents. The Foundation aims to provide top quality arts training to our youth from all backgrounds, primarily through its annual Summer Arts Camp. Students between ages 12–18 participate in intense training for 2–4 weeks under the direction of theatrical teachers and performers. TASCA has been designed as a way of maintaining that positive environment that allows students to gain an understanding of peer leadership, self-growth and discipline year-round.
The Grand Opening ceremony, itself, will begin at 11:30 AM and will be held in the Center’s main parking lot at 5616 Memorial Drive. This momentous occasion will consist of welcoming remarks from a number of prominent community leaders, including special guest speaker Ms. Shakur. There will also be a special performance of Family Tree by “Pac’s Kids,” the students of the Summer Arts Camp, along with Celina Nixon, an original camp student and current coordinator of the camp. This will be followed by a the cutting of the ribbon at the Peace Garden by Ms. Shakur and a dedication of the Garden that will involve children planting a ceremonial tree. Guests will then be invited to explore the Visitor Center and Peace Garden and reflect amongst themselves.
30th May 2005: Hard Evidence Says Tupac Lives:
Alive theorist of the late great hip-hop rap icon Tupac Shakur have been adding numbers to get their 7‘s and have been dissecting every word ever recorded by Tupac Shakur ever since his death in 1996. There are many who feel the late hip-hop rap icon is still with us; in the physical form.
By most accounts, Tupac Shakur was murdered in Las Vegas in 1996 while riding in a vehicle with Death Row Records CEO and friend Marion ‘Suge’ Knight.
Many theories and thoughts have been published about that night and the events surrounding the murder of the legendary Tupac Shakur.
There is a group in Kansas that has published a new book that claims to show ‘proof’ that the late great rapper Tupac Shakur is still among us.
Hard Evidence Publishing has published ‘2Pac Lives The Death of Makaveli / The Resurrection of Tupac Amaru (Volume 1)’ by Drah Cenedive (Author), courtesy Interscope Records (Illustrator).
This new book will surely cause some controversy among the fans of the late west coast rap icon, Tupac Shakur. According to Hard Evidence claims they have solved one of America's most controversial mysteries of all time; the existence of Tupac Shakur, the first and only world-wide recording artist living in exile.
As Tupac makes another statement in the music industry with his release of “Loyal to the Game“, there are rumors brewing that another album will follow entitled "In Conversations", claims Hard Evidence. Another title rumored to be named for the album is "One Nation". Hard Evidence has gone the distance to answer the riddles of a modern day lyrical "genius" formerly known as "Makaveli".
“Tupac Shakur is not dead and this book explains 90% of what happen along with giving the reader an in depth look at what Tupac was really saying,” says Drah Cenedive lead writer and founder of Hard Evidence Research Group & Publishing.
In Stores Now available at Hastings (Topeka & Lawrence, KS), Borders Books (Lawrence, KS), and Barnes and Noble, this book contains some information that every Tupac fan should look at.

19th May 2005: Tone Boots Calls 2Pac A 'Hater':
AS MANY OF YOU WILL KNOW,,,,MTV DID A TOP 10 HIP HOP ALBUMS THIS MONTH,,,,,,AND I WAS SHOCKED WHEN TWO OF THE MTV REPS FOR HIP HOP CALLED TUPAC A HATER......AND THEY CLAIMED THAT BECAUSE TUPAC HADNT HAD AN ALBUM IN THE TOP 10 WHILST HE WAS ALIVE (THE FIRST WAS MAKAVELI) HE SHOUDLNT HAVE AN ALBUM IN THE ALL TIME TOP 10, AND BIGGIE SHUD HAVE TWO ENTRIES!
:::::::::::::::::HERES WHAT THE ARTICLE SAID:::::::::::::::::::
The last album that Tupac recorded while he was alive. He wrote his hardest, his realest and some of his most poignant rhymes ever. It was the album that made the world shake for about a year after it came out.
The Argument
Originally, no Tupac album scored in the top 10, while two Biggie albums did. The team felt that even if that's how the original voting went, it couldn't stand by the list without Tupac being on it (see the Ready to Die page for the debate on cutting one of Biggie's gems.) So which Tupac album should be included, All Eyez on Me or the Makaveli album (The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory)? Or none at all? There were a few holdouts who felt Pac didn't necessarily belong on this list of the greatest of all time ...
Rahman Dukes: I'm against having the two Biggie albums on there. But if we take one of the Biggie albums off and put a Tupac on and say that the Tupac one is better than the Biggie one that we took off, then that was a lie, because I don't agree with that. The Tupac album is not better. I don't think that none of Tupac's albums are better than Biggie's.
I used to mess with Pac like right up until "Juice." And then he started flipping on everybody from New York and I was just like ...
Tone Boots: I feel the opposite — my problem wasn't him dissing New York, I just didn't like the songs he made before he got with Death Row, with the exception of joints like "Dear Mama" and "So Many Tears." I think he made corny records before that. He was an OK rapper and the sales proved it, because he did not go platinum until the controversy swirled around him going to prison and, even more so, after his move to Death Row.
Sway Calloway: With all that controversy surrounding that album, that's when Pac was probably at the peak of his power, 'cause All Eyez is when he first came out of jail, and people were watching to see what he was gonna do after he was back. But by the time of Makaveli, that whole persona with Death Row and Suge ... for someone to come out on wax and attack the biggest artists, like Nas, Jay-Z and Puff, it didn't even matter, even old-school artists like De La Soul, and not care ... Not to mention the music, the tracks were ridiculous. I do definitely think Makaveli should be on this top 10.
Dukes: I want to back up my claim before everyone jumps down my throat. My thing with him was that he was contradicting himself. And you know everybody is talking about Nas and how he contradicts himself. And you know I used to listen to Tupac and he was always on the pro-black thing and he had a lot of messages and I'm not saying he didn't have anything later in his raps. You know, how are you going to go pro-black to like ...
Sway: He grew up. His life changed, he changed, he was shot.
Bridget Bland: You can't discredit it. Just because he is contradictory, I don't think that can discredit his talent.
Tone Boots: All I'm saying is he came off as a hater to me.
Dukes: Exactly, that's what I'm saying.
(Everybody starts yelling.)
2nd May 2005: $1million Reward For Tupac's Aunt:
Federal Authorities will post a $1 million dollar reward for Black Liberation Army member Joanne Chesimard aka Assata Shakur; aunt of the slain west coast hip-hop rap icon Tupac Shakur.
After being convicted of the murder of a State Trooper in 1973, Assata escaped from Clinton Correctional Institution for Women in Hunterdon County in 1979. She has lived in Cuba since.
In a report ‘Country Reports on Terrorism 2004’ released by the State Dept. Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism; Fidel Castro’s government has received bad reviews for not handing over Assata and other political prisoners to authorities. The government has charged that these are terrorist and have been charged with terrorist act’s, so Cuba must support terrorism since they will not turn them over.
Along with the announcement of the reward for Assata, her name will be added to the FBI's domestic terrorist list.
A news conference is scheduled for later today (Monday May 2) and we will up-date with any further information.
19th Apr 2005: 2Pac's Mom Says Next LP Will Be The Last:
Afeni Shakur, mother of slain icon Tupac Shakur, has spent the last several years keeping her son's name alive. And although the trove of unreleased music from the rapper seems to be reaching its end — Afeni said the last album of unreleased material will come out next year — she's renovating the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation's Peace Memorial Garden and Visitors Center in Stone Mountain, Georgia, in the hope of establishing a more lasting memorial.
Though Afeni has been remembering her son with annual concerts around his June 16 birthday, she and her partners in the foundation felt that more could be done.
"When Tupac died, the first year and afterward, we thought the way to celebrate him was to have concerts and events every June in Georgia," Ms. Shakur explained. "And after we spent so much money and only affected the people right there, we decided we'd build a foundation and work with young people on an ongoing basis."
Each summer, the foundation holds a performing-arts camp for children suffering from troubled home lives. The camp, which is set on nine recently renovated acres of countryside in Stone Mountain, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta where Afeni resides), will be formally reopened on June 10. Afeni, a former Black Panther and a recovered drug addict, referenced her own tumultuous past when describing the foundation's main goal.
"When Tupac was 13 and I was homeless," she said, "Tupac was in the 127th Street Ensemble [theater group] right here in New York. Those people, I believe, saved his life. So what we try to do is be that for the next generation of young people."
Next year, Afeni said she intends to place a life-size sculpture of Tupac at the garden's entrance. Meanwhile, a video with a stark message has been released for "Ghetto Gospel," the recent single from Tupac's posthumous LP 'Loyal to the Game'. The clip, directed by Nzingha Stewart, is about a young man who dies, while his mother mourns the loss and recognizes that the destructive pattern continues. The video reflects Afeni's own concerns.
"This year, Tupac would've been 34 years old," she said. "He died when he'd just made 25. I perceive a crisis in young people and I want to share my concern. The most important thing for young people is to stay alive."
Afeni is also working on an as-of-yet-untitled film detailing Tupac's early life, as well as a traveling Broadway play. Author Quentin Skinner has also written a biography of the rapper, which will be published later this year.
"[Loyal to the Game] will have no more singles," Afeni said. "We'll do a spoken-word album this year, and next year we'll do the final unreleased song album for Tupac. And then we're going to beg you all to come and see us at the [Peace Memorial Garden and Visiting] Center."

5th Apr 2005: Video Claiming Pac Is Alive:
A Video was today released claiming that Tupac is alive and well and is at a recording studio recording disses towards artists like his album Loyal To The Game's producer Eminem.
In the video the 'presenter' claims tupac is outside the studio laughing and joking with the Outlawz and casually relaxng and having a smoke during a break in recording. 'Tupac' is seen laughing and smiling as he would, and its the Outlawz who kick off at the camara man! However the man is only acting to be Tupac, im sorry to dissapoint, even though he looks very like Tupac, the actors that are supposed to be the Outlawz do not look at all like them, and when the camera zooms in on the supposed Tupac, it can be seen it clearly isnt him, although it is a very very good look alike and actor! This is another very sad and sick attempt at publicity from claiming Tupac is alive and well! LET ME BE THE FIRST TO SAY FOR ALL TUPAC'S FANS,,,, FUCK THE MAKERS OF THIS VIDEO AND LET PAC REST IN PEACE! FUCK YOU HATERS!!!! R.I.P. TUPAC
1st Apr 2005: Sick 2pac April Fools:
Today an article was put on the internet claiming cnn.com had evidence of Tupac been alive, the article claims Tupac had gave a private interview on the past 7 years, and that he also was going to make a rap 'come back'.
Well first let me smash the rumor, because I promise all of you, thats all this sick shit is, a rumour. Firstly the site was set out to look like an official cnn.com statement on their official website. Well if you study the domain name (website address) the site was hosted on a free website provider, like Yahoo!'s Geocities etc. So the site was not an official cnn site. Secondly the article was put online on April 1st, so the site is an april fools, and at the bottom of the site, in the copyright small print, it even admitted it was an april fools and 'Tupac's dead, get over it'. This was obviously made by someone who doesn't like Tupac, but wanted to create a April Fools prank and get their little sad life noticed. So let me be the first to say 'FUCK YOU' to the owner of that little fake site!
